The Double Standard

I was thinking about comfortable shoes this week--and how they seem to be "out of style" again. Remember the Doc Martens days in the early nineties when the most fashionable girls wore clunky shoes all the time--even to the prom? Then that got me thinking about fashion and women and men. How is that a man can be considered attractive and sexy when he is sporting:

• sensible shoes
• wash and wear hair
• shaving stubble
• cotton underwear with a waistband
• grey hair
• unvarnished skin
• unpolished fingernails
• crows feet
• real eyebrows

while a collection of those features on a woman would generate a collective "ugh" from the fashionistas?
